Bolts Insider
As promised, we have the Chargers' schedule in it's entirety which we will break down game-by-game. But first, we're going to have a quick look at the Preseason as a whole, both the good, and the bad!
Let's start with the negatives, as Chargers fans that's what we're all used to.
Their Run Game Sucks:
If we gave you a chance to guess at the Chargers' total running yards all Preseason, what would you guess?
Unfortunately, it's probably less than that. Despite investing highly in Melvin Gordon, (and possessing a strong RB group), the Bolts managed only a pitiful 148 yards in four games. This was their Achilles heel last year, and forced them to become a one-dimensional team.
Let's hope that this doesn't continue throughout the year, and that this backfield can really get it going.
No Juice: The Bolts have put a lot of stock into improving this run game. If it doesn't pay off, the Bolts may be in big trouble down the stretch.
Their Defense Sucks:
Another area of concern for some time, this Bolts defense has often been predicated on 'bend but don't break', a far cry from the 1st ranked defense of years past.
Giving up nearly 1500 yards in the Preseason alone, (via a second string defense, granted), you've gotta wonder if this is the last year of the John Pagano zone-blitz scheme, or if they will find a new wrinkle to their game.
But It Doesn't Quite Suck?
Ok, so maybe we were a little harsh on the second teamers, but real props go to the first team defense. In four quarters they have let up only 10 points, against four different teams. That's quite the accomplishment.
Whilst they have found some success getting to the QB, (with 12 sacks throughout), they have struggled creating turnovers which has forced their offense to shoot it out every week.
Which leads us nicely on to the real positives!
They Have A Potent Passing Game:
When only 14% of your overall offense happens on the ground, it says something for your aerial attack. Granted, because they couldn't establish a run the Chargers were forced to the air out of necessity.
Still, with Clemens leading the Preseason in passing yards it shows that the offense can put up yardage with the best of them. This isn't exactly what Coach McCoy envisioned with the drafting of Gordon, but being able to sling the pigskin in this day-and-age isn't exactly a bad thing.
They Have Pride:
Sorta. When you're down 24-7 in the 4th Qtr, what do you do? Try to air it out if you're San Diego! As we've seen throughout the Preseason, this isn't a team to give up, no matter their predicament. Both offense and defense continue to fight hard, which shows this team's grit.
They Have Depth:
If anyone can take something positive from the Bolts' Preseason it's probably their depth throughout. We saw good production from all the backup offense at every level, especially at WR, and Clemens shined behind this backup O-line.
Defense also had it's standouts, OLBs Emmanuel and Williams both took the Preseason as an open invitation to prove something.
If there's any positions the Chargers are lacking in seemingly, it is the front 3 and the secondary. Both showed flashes at times, but inconsistent play led to huge rushing and passing yardage against them.
Young Guns: Inexperienced players, like Emanuel, will be the future keys to this team, based on their performance thus far.
This Is A Young Team:
Hard to fathom when all of your best players are hitting their 30's, but looking at the depth chart it is clear this is a team built for the future. At nearly every position there are young guys waiting in the wings, from drafted talent to former First Round picks, this team is slowly grooming a batch of special players.

The Chargers have a tough schedule this year, including a hellacious 5-game stretch at the end of the season.
In their division, the Broncos stand strong as the firm winner. Oakland have added some impressive pieces through the draft, and Kansas City, under Coach Reid for another year, look to return to the playoffs.
If the division wasn't tough enough, teams like New England, Seattle and Baltimore stand in their way. It's gonna be an extremely tough year for this Chargers team, so let's hope that Mr Telesco and Coach McCoy are ready!
@ Arizona Cardinals: The Chargers first game of the season will see them pitted against a team they played in week 4 of preseason, an unusual scheduling to say the least. Arizona dominated their last outing, in a game where they put up over 400 yds of offense. If the Chargers have a similar outing, it's going to be an awful way to start the season! With a dominant secondary, expect to see the Bolts try to ground and pound the football. Though there hasn't been much to prove they can do that though!
Score: SD - 17 ARI - 28
Seattle Seahawks: The defending champs will be coming to San Diego in Week 2, and that's not good news. After dismantling the Broncos, (a much tougher opponent than our Bolts!), the Hawks will be looking for a Superbowl repeat, trashing all who stand in the way. With Marshawn Lynch against this putrid run defense, and a Hawks defense that is lights out, expect the worst.
Score: SD - 21 SEA - 38
The road to the Superbowl passes through San Diego, unfortunately.
@ Buffalo Bills: The Bills suffer from the same problem a lot the AFC East does, lack of a great QB. The Chargers D will have to use this to their advantage. Unfortunately, this high-powered offense will have other ideas. Despite the injury to CJ Spiller, Fred Jackson is more than capable of carrying the load, and a plethora of receiving talent will more than make up for the deficiencies at QB.
The Bills' strength though is it's formidable front seven, (which took a blow with the injury to DE Jerry Hughes), look for the Chargers to go to the air in this one. Not an improbable win to be had here.
Score: BUF - 17 SD - 21
Jacksonville Jaguars: The Jags are a struggling team now on the up. QB Blake Bortles, (like any rookie quarterback), had his ups and downs last year. But with a plethora of young pass-catchers, and rookie RB TJ Yeldon now in the mix, this offense has potential. Whilst there are still holes on the defense, the Jags shouldn't be taken lightly.
Score: SD - 34 JAX - 21
New York Jets: The Jets are a difficult evaluation. With the drafting of D-lineman Leonard Williams, and the return of CBs Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie, this team has a defense others would pine for. With two excellent receivers and a solid RB corps, the only question is at QB. It's not clear who the Jets are gonna go with, but as long as they just don't turn the ball over, it will be a tough day for the Chargers.
Oh, and that Chargers run game? Not happening.

@ Oakland Raiders: The Bolts first division game will be taking place in the Black Hole. The Raiders had some great draft picks this past year. With OLB Khalil Mack, QB Derek Carr to name a few, the Raiders won't be the walkover of last year. Still, they will probably still be the bottom of the division this year.
Score: OAK - 17 SD - 28
Kansas City Chiefs: The string of division games continues with Chiefs coming to town. They have a great 3-4 system, built right down the middle, with DT Dontari Poe, MLB Derrick Johnson and SS Eric Berry. OLBs Justin Houston and Tamba Hali cause havoc off the edges, and could have a field day if this O-line doesn't hit it's stride.
Score: SD - 35 KC - 28
@ Denver Broncos: One of the hardest games on the schedule, the Chargers will travel to mile high. The Broncos have no obvious weaknesses on their squad, and with a future hall of famer under center, chances are the Broncos will pick them apart.

@ Miami Dolphins: Last week before the bye week, will be against the hard-nosed defense of Miami. Ryan Tannehill is in his 3rd year now, and has a better understanding of the offense. The Bolts will also try and contain RB Lamarr Miller, and these young talented receivers. Not to mention the addition of DT Ndamukong Suh and MLB Daryl Washington, this defense is frightful in it's own right!
Score: MIA - 21 SD - 28
Bye Week: After a tough stint of games, the Chargers will limp into Week 10 for their bye. Hopefully, without too many injuries in tow.
Oakland Raiders: After a week of rest, the Bolts will be excited to bring their hated rivals into their stadium. Provided they aren't too injured, or the Raiders struggled in their last meeting, then expect the Bolts to do well here.
Score: SD - 34 OAK - 13
St. Louis Rams: The first game of the Bolts' toughest run of the year starts against St. Louis. If there was a front 4 that you didn't want to meet, it's this one. The Bolts offense will have a real challenge against St. Louis, but the defense may be able to contain QB Nick Foles and it's lack of pass catchers. But now with Todd Gurley, the Rams could have success on the ground against this defense.
Score: SD - 28 STL - 24
@ Baltimore Ravens: From one tough defense to another, the Ravens will be another great test for this O-Line. With the departure of Ray Rice, the Ravens will rely on the services of Justin Forsett and the arm of Joe Flacco. Despite not being a high-powered offense, this defense will more than make up for any deficiencies in the team!
Score: BAL - 35 SD - 21
New England Patriots: The team the Chargers can never beat, even at the best of the times. Now they, probably have no chance. The Pats will rule the East until Brady retires most likely, and no doubt Belichick will have planned many ways to exploit this depleted team. No matter who's on the roster, the Pats always find a way to win.
Score: SD - 24 NE - 37
Denver Broncos: 2nd bout against the AFC West heavyweights. Playing at home may make a bit of difference, but not enough to change the outcome, we fear.
Score: SD - 28 DEN - 34
It's unlikely the Chargers will de-throne the Broncos as the division leader this year!
@ San Francisco 49ers: The schedule continues on it's hellish march to the off-season, with another exceptional defense. To this point the Chargers will be no strangers to mobile QBs, and Kapernick may be one of the most agile thus far. Containing him alone will be a challenge for this young defense. With a plethora of linebacking talent, the Chargers will just have to hope they can do their damage through the air.

@ Kansas City Chiefs Last game of the season may be the last chance for our Chargers team to clinch a wildcard berth this season. Depending on injuries at the time this game could swing either way, but a string of tough games may see the Bolts limp into this game with no juice.
Score: KC - 28 SD - 14
When it's all said and done, an 8-8 team may not get the job done and make it to the playoffs, (though the Chargers have done it before!). But as we said before this all purely speculation, any numbers of factors could change things.
But let's hope we're wrong and this team can make it over the hump this year. Another year without a playoff appearance could be putting Coach McCoy very much in the 'hot-seat'.

Bolts Insider
The Preseason is finally in the books! Many teams can breathe a sigh of relief, as everyone managed to dodge the injury bullet this week. Our Chargers have been especially lucky, as they avoided any injuries altogether over four weeks!
As we step into the Regular Season, teams will complete their final round of cutting this week, and many unfortunates will be waiting for a phone call.
Signed:
SD - M. Elam SS - 570K - The first of three moves made by the Chargers this week. So far in his career, the former Ravens first Round pick is considered a bust. Granted he has not played to the standard expected, but maybe the expectations were too much. If he has anything though, it's piles of athleticism and potential.
The Chargers currently carry two SSs in Addae and Wilson. Word is, that the coaching staff don't believe either to be the answer at the position. If Elam plays at his expected level, there is a high chance he may breaking the starting line-up next year. His future rests in his own hands.
Revival?: Once the Ravens showed him the door, many believed Elam's career to be done. We will see what his future holds in San Diego.
SD - M. Barkley QB - 730K - Now after such an abysmal start to a career and being let go last week, many would question the decision to sign Barkley, dig deeper and it becomes more clear. The Chargers currently carry two QBs, Rivers is incumbent, Clemens has performed well but is no spring chicken. God forbid one, (or both!), QBs go down then what? And what if Clemens retires? That's either a draft pick, or more money in free agency to sign his replacement.
That's a lot of if's. But having Barkley now makes sense, with some training and a year in the system, he will be a cheaper and possibly more viable option next year should the Chargers need someone. Besides, Rivers ain't young either, so a young QB might be just what they need.
SD - A. Blake CB - 660K - Former FS turned Corner, is the final Chargers signing. Though short in stature at 5' 9" and lacking experience, his break neck speed means he will be valuable in the return game alongside Reese and Jones. Perhaps with some grooming he will make a decent slot corner, with his athleticism.
ATL - M. Williams WR - 1.62M - Williams' stint in the NFL started very well, setting a franchise record for TDs in a season, and leading all WRs in his class in receptions and yards. Since then he has had a stint of injuries, and was recently cut by the Bills. Now Atlanta has decided to make it's receiving corps even more ridiculous!
Next to Julio Jones and Roddy White, Williams will probably play in the slot. Should any go down though, he has starting receiver experience and ability, so he would be a nice fall-back player.
Released:
SD - D. Brown HB - The former Colt is finally out of San Diego. After following Telesco to his new home, Brown has been a depth guy at best, but a back-loaded contract that hamstrung the Chargers kept him on the squad. With spaces running out, San Diego eats the penalty and sends Brown on his way.
HOU - N. Washington WR - With the addition of Sidney Rice, (and this year's drafted Jaelen Strong), the Texans cut ties with Washington. This seems an odd choice as it could be argued that Washington is just as good if not better than Rice in his production. Still, this makes him one of the better receivers in free agency, with some juice left in the tank, which someone may need down the line.
TEN - M. Griffin SS - (Again, this is probably down to an undeserved low rating) The former first round safety has been moved, in what seems to be a questionable move by Tennessee. Since his arrival, Griffin has had a sound career, including a seven INT season in 2008. What spurred this move is unknown, but we'll be surprised if he hangs around for too long.
PIT - J. Harrison OLB - The most feared player in the NFL is back on the market. Whatever it is between Harrison and the Steelers, this roundabout of sign-release is probably over for good. Harrison can play stand up in a 3-4 and potentially do some damage with his hand in the ground. We expect him to find a home pretty soon!
The End?: Will this be the last time we see Harrison on the gridiron? Let's hope not, without his notoriety the League would be dull!
OAK - T. Richardson HB - How far the apple has fallen from the tree for Richardson. After a stellar rookie year, he was soon traded by the new Cleveland staff for a 1st Rounder from the Colts. Since then, Richardson has been ultimately ineffective at the Pro level. Now his short stint at Oakland is over, it's possible his NFL career is done.
NE - D. Amendola WR - The apparent successor to Wes Welker is on the market again. Amendola has floated between a couple of teams now, after some pretty serious injuries have left him sidelined for many of his years, so any teams that grab him now will have to consider his history. But he's an extremely talented slot receiver and could help a bunch of teams of he can stay on the field.
CAR - R. Harper SS - After the loss of 'Peanut' Tillman, you would think the Panthers would want to keep as many secondary players as possible. Instead they have cut ties with the experienced former Saint. The Pathers have very little depth in the secondary, so the front seven will have to be the driving force of the defense, (as before), and pressure will be on Cam Newton to keep the team on the board.
DET - R. Mathis CB - Mathis holds quite a few franchise records with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he's had a few injured seasons recently but that's something to overlook right? Apparently not, if you're Detroit. He now becomes the best corner in free agency, leaving this Detroit team with a fairly weak secondary.
NYG - C. Jenkins DT - Who knows what's going on in New York right now! First Mike Patterson is let go, then Cullen Jenkins? Both productive players, and former teammates! So surely that kind of chemistry would be a massive bonus? Maybe not, or so the Giants believe. New York has a plethora of defensive linemen, so they probably won't be too poorly off, but Jenkins is another talented DT in the shuffle.
ATL - D. Hester WR - The greatest kick-returner in NFL history is looking for a job. It's difficult to fathom that teams still want to lean on the 'Hester WR experiment', rather than just take him for what he is, the best returner in the NFL. Unfortunately, the life of a returner has a shelf-life, and it's true Hester doesn't quite have the wheels that he used to, and without them what is his purpose?
Someone may take him for his ability alone, but there are younger, faster options out there, we hope Hester's HOF career end this way.

DAL - D. McFadden HB - Thought to be the successor for the great season of DeMarco Murray, the Cowboys have instead decided not to take a gamble on McFadden. In a career plagued with injuries, he has never lived up to expectations. From his college days to the flashes of Regular Season greatness, it's easy to see why people fall on the hype train. But with very few 16 game seasons under his belt, it's tough to see anyone take the risk on McFadden at his age.
DEN - A. Smith DT - Self designated as 'The Ninja', Smith is taking his awful nickname to free agency. This isn't such a huge deal to the Texans who still have a solid front seven. Smith is big enough to play in a 4-3 or DE in a 3-4, which should make him a valuable commodity. But age is a factor, and it's unclear whether the cost-age ratio is going to be worth it for a year.
DEN - R. Hillman HB - After a short stint with the Broncos, the former Aztec is now on a long list of RB free agents. He has some fumbles in big moments, and some question his durability, but at 23 he has the tools to be a solid back with some coaching.

With their last game of the Preseason finally here, the Chargers wanted to finish with a bang, or at least at .500!
The Cardinals lost their last game against the Bengals, not that that means much, but they'll also be looking to beat the Bolts to stay above .500 and give them some momentum going into the Regular Season.
The Cardinals started with the football, at which point we should note, they would be without speedy RB Andre Ellington this week, due to injury. He was replaced by third year man Stepfan Taylor, who looked to fill his teammate's shoes, he did so with aplomb!
The Cards looked dominant through the air and on the ground, with Taylor ripping off gain after gain against this 'soft' defensive front. It wasn't long before rookie RB David Johnson would run it in from a 3yd toss.
The Chargers response to this? Very little. Once again Melvin Gordon could find nothing on the ground and they looked stagnant through the air. Soon it would lead to a 3 and out.
Luckily, the defense was able to crank down before the end of the Qtr. Even despite a 29yd pass to WR John Brown, the Bolts managed to hold this offense from storming all the way to the endzone, and instead just a FG.
End of the 1st, Cards up 10-0.
Despite their best efforts, the Chargers 2nd team couldn't muster anything either, and were too forced to punt.
The Cardinals second teamers, on the other hand, had clearly been watching lots of football of old! In a drive that only consisted of two passing plays, RB Johnson and even FB Robert Hughes, powered downhill all the way to the redzone. Ending in a 1yd run by Hughes for the TD.
With the game quickly getting out of hand, the Chargers needed some spark from somewhere! This came in the form of a 24yd pass to WR Dontrelle Inman. But, as the Bolts approached the endzone, three plays weren't enough, bringing up 4th & 2. Down by 17, the Bolts decide to go for it, which would be great, but an interception by OLB Alex Okafor, (credited with a sack two plays earlier), dashes that plan and the Chargers first points.
Whoops!: Whoops indeed. Clemens turns the ball over and the Chargers still have no points with just over a minute in the half!
Thanks to a sack by rookie OLB Kyle Emanuel however, the Cards would not be able to turn their last drive into points. Thus ending the madness!
With a pitiful amount of offensive yardage, it's no surprise the Cards dominated the game thus far!
It seemed the Chargers would go on as they had all day, with seemingly no success on the ground. However, a couple of nice long pass plays soon put TE Antonio Gates in the endzone from 13yds out. Chargers get their first points of the game.
Unfortunately, veteran QB Drew Stanton was undeterred by the Chargers sudden momentum. A beautiful 13yd pass to WR J.J. Nelson put the Cards on the board again. Young CB Shaquille Richardson was caught just out of position and was unable to make a play.
Stanton was perfect 5/5 on the drive, adding to his already perfect game.
The Chargers' struggles on Offense continued, as Clemens overthrows some passes, leading to another quick 3 & out.
Stanton continued to look like Peyton Manning, until a few nice plays by the defense finally forced a few incompletions. The Cards would settle for the field goal, going ahead 27-7.
The Cardinals kept bringing the pressure, forcing Clemens to run around like a mad man to make plays. Luckily, he did. Ending the drive with a 2yd TD to TE Ladarius Green. Clemens has continued to show some real guts under adversity.
But, as has been the story thus far, the Cardinals continued to shred the defense for the TD. They even went as far as to go for two! At least on this drive the Bolts showed a bit of aggression, laying some decent hits in.
With the game entirely out of reach, the Bolts decided not to just lie down and take it. Going no-huddle, Clemens stormed the offense down the field, for pride's sake. Their tenacity paid off, with a 9yd catch and run by Green, able barrel over defenders for his second TD of the night.
Unable to recover the onside kick, the Cardinals tacked on another FG to put the game totally out of reach. With such a defecit, the Chargers decide to play it safe, and kneel the ball, running out the clock.
Final Score: ARI - 38 SD - 21

Another loss for the Chargers takes their final Preseason record to 1-3, ironically, their only win coming against the Superbowl Champs.
Today however, the Chargers just seemed to lack passion, or drive, or something!
The defense was a mess, again, recently they had been kept in the game by a big play offense. Alas, this was not the case today. Although Clemens tried as much as he could to keep the game competitive, a complete lack of a running game and some good pressure, made that a tough proposition.
While we all know that Preseason is pretty pointless from a spectators perspective, it is a chance for the young guys to get their reps and help the coaching staff see who their good depth players might be. So whilst the final record might not be important, a win here might have built some confidence going into the Regular Season, especially since Arizona is their first opponent!
Offensive Gameball: TE Ladarius Green; Ok, so we could all argue that Kellen Clemens deserves this award three time in-a-row. But he did miss some easy throws because of pressure. But he did complete 2 TD passes, 2 of which, were to Mr. Green.
Considered the successor to Antonio Gates, Green already has huge pressure to fill Hall of Fame sized shoes. Eventually though, he will get his shot, and we are excited to see what may come. Until then, building a repor with your QB can't hurt, and being able to score when your number is called, helps too!
Two on the Day: Many fans have been waiting for Green to get in the starting lineup, perhaps that day is coming shortly.
Defensive Gameball: OLB Kyle Emanuel; It was really hard to pick anyone from the defense this week, but as a late-round rookie, Kyle Emanuel is quietly having a good Preseason. At least he kept up the tempo with a two sack performance, when everyone else seemed asleep.

Bolts Insider
As the end of Preseason draws nearer, the NFL has apparently gone a little bit crazy with roster moves! Hordes of players have been signed and cut throughout the week. With far too many to track each one, we've included a couple of, what we believe to be, highlighted players.
Signed:
NYG - Tarell Brown CB - 1.58M - Probably not know to many, but Brown was one of the corners who helped San Fran become a shut-down defense in 2011. He's a quick corner with good fundamentals, and at 5' 11" he should flourish as a slot corner, where he is likely to play.
PIT - Antoine Cason CB - 1.4M - The former Charger has found another home for himself, in a position where he may start straight away. He will have to beat out Cortez Allen, but he may find his experience will win out. Otherwise he will be a nice locker room addition to this young secondary.
OAK - Barry Cofield DT - 1.98M - A very versatile lineman who transitioned well from a 4-3 rusher to a nose tackle. With big Dan Williams also on the team, the Raiders now have the freedom to pick and choose their defensive front, based on the play calling. It's a lot of cash, but as the only other DT on the roster, he may be a saving grace for this team in the future. The Chargers will take notice.
MIA - Jed Collins FB - 730K - Collins' career has been a very strange one. For the first three years of being an undrafted free agent, he joined the practice squad for SEVEN different teams. It wasn't until 2011 that he got his shot to start in New Orleans, where he helped raise their rushing attack from 22nd to 4th in the NFL.
This however all seemed to go unnoticed, and since 2013 he has signed to three more teams! Miami may have got a steal here, and hopefully the guy can finally find a place to call home!
NO - Le'Ron McClain FB - 850K - What, another Fullback! We hear you cry. Yes we know FB isn't sexy or interesting, but it's incredible what you can if you have a good one! McClain is possibly one of the most versatile FBs in the NFL, (think Charles Clay but not as athletic). He can block, he has some speed to be used in short yardage downs, and can also contribute in the passing game! Without Jed Collins, the Saints have made sure his replacement is up to standard!
DAL - Knowshon Moreno HB - 2.2M - With Demarco Murray now in Philly, the Cowboys may have reached a little here. Moreno, best known for his stint with Denver, (and that's it by the way), just got a big deal to replace the No.1 rushing attack in Dallas. He is not Demarco Murray, (heck, some might even say why isn't backup Lance Dunbar starting!), but he is more durable that Murray, and with the best O-line in the NFL, who's to say he can't contribute straight away?
The Right Call?: $2 million is a lot to spend on a guy when you have talented runners waiting in the wings. Even so, we will follow Moreno's progress this season. Also it was hard not to put a picture of him crying...
DET - Danario Alexander WR - 1.84M - The Receiver with glass knees is heading to Detroit! In all seriousness though, Alexander has had some shoddy luck in his career. Whenever he started hitting his stride, injury would bite him and that would be it. He's still talented, with great hands and a 6' 5" frame which should make him an easy target for Stafford. He'll start in the slot no doubt, before he inevitably gets injured. A risky signing, but we shall see.
Released:
CHI - Jeremiah Ratliff DT - For a while, many considered Ratliff the best DT in the NFL, but age and health concerns have ensured those days are gone. The undersized, 7th Rnd Pick spent a long time dominating offenses in the NFC East, but trust can't be bought, and his lack of trust for the orginization broke down, making him leave for Chicago.
He's reaching the twilight of his career no doubt, but he is still a force to be reckoned with. Unfortunately he joins a free agency loaded with aged, talented DTs, so finding a job might be tougher than expected.
STL - Isaiah Pead HB - Considered one of the top running backs in his draft, Pead has seen his football career take a tumble. After failing to break the starting lineup in his rookie season, he then suffered an ACL tear during the Preseason. He missed the entire year. Now left on the trade block, he may not see himself on a team unless he is to get lucky next year.
STL - Scott Wells C - (I don't know why this guy is rated OVR 63, but whatever!) If any team out there is need of a guy at C, don't hesitate to grab Scott Wells! The long-time Packer is extremely durable, (missing only one game between 2006-2012!), and highly experienced. After a stint with St. Louis, it's too bad to see that his career might be over from here, but let's hope someone realises his value!
DET - Lance Moore WR - The long-time Steeler is now a free agent. It is a shame as he is very talented as a slot receiver, but taking a chance on Danario Alexander, the Lions decided they would go for youth and athleticism. Let's hope it doesn't come back to bite them!
NYJ - Daryl Richardson HB - From 6th Rnd Pick, to solid backup in St. Louis, even beating out much higher rated player Isaiah Pead. Unfortunately, he won't be backup in New York this year. Based on his short stint on a team, he may not have enough upside to be signed, but we believe someone should at least give the kid a shot.
NYJ - Jason Babin OLB - Babin's career hasn't been as special as expected, after being a 1st Rnd Pick. He had a great stint with the Eagles at DE, but his production hasn't been what people had hoped. He may still find a job, but he would better going back to the DE spot.
PHI - Matt Barkley QB - NFL life has certainly been turned on it's head for Barkley. Formerly considered the top Heismann candidate, his stock took a slide after poor play and injury side-lined him for his senior year. He did not throw at the combine and was eventually picked in the 4th Round by Philly.
Now it looks like that dream has fallen further as he hits free agency. Still, he is young and has potential to grow into a solid backup if groomed correctly. We may see him on a team yet.
Fall From Grace: From Heismann candidate to free agent, Barkley's career has taken a turn for the worse.
MIA - LaMichael James HB - After breaking all sorts of records at Oregon College, and guiding them to a Rosebowl win, James is now on the street. There is often such a disconnect between great players in college and how it translates at the pro level. That said, James is completely unfounded territory at this point in his NFL career, so if some team does take a swing at him, they may be in for a great surprise!
CIN - Eric Winston OT - The journeyman tackle is on the move again, but this time not to a new team. Winston has bunch of pelts on the wall, and any team seeking O-line help would do well to get on the blower.
Trades:
NO - Trade D. Hawthorne MLB + 6th Rnd for L. Wilson TE - SEA - David Hawthorne is heading back to Seattle, the place where he made his bones. He'll play second to fiddle to Bobby Wagner, but should help the young man behind the scenes some. He knows the city and he knows the system.
On the flip-side, the Saints get a replacement for Jimmy Graham, or at least someone to play the same position. This does seem ludicrous though, trading away your star player to a team, only then to make another trade for a player of the same position? Why not keep the other guy?
Either way, the Saints get a replacement pass-catching TE, and lose more picks. Not what we would have done, but apparently their system relies on that TE position.
Injuries:
CAR - C. Tillman CB - Brk. Ankle (23 weeks) IR - Fans in Carolina are gonna be so bummed about this. They finally get the chance to have a legitimate starting corner, only to lose him for the rest of the season in a meaningless game. Management can't be too happy either! With a bunch of pelts on the wall, an injury like this at Tillman's age could spell the end of a career. We hope that he recovers and gets one more year on the field.
Preseason Strikes!: The argument for 'no more Preseason' couldn't be more vividly realised here. Without including the loss of contracts and money from teams, but also the well-being of the players.
OAK - C. Lofton MLB - Disc. Ankle (5 weeks) - Oakland will miss Lofton, who offered a force at MLB. Luckily the signing of Barry Cofield and talent at OLB, should allow backup Nick Roach to pick his spots and contribute as much as possible.
BUF - J. Hughes DE - Brk. Thumb (4 weeks) - Two injuries to big players on the Bills team this week. Both will miss a couple of regular season games. The loss of Hughes will be masked some by the rest of the talent on that D-line, but the news that he will be replaced by former OLB Manny Lawson, (at 240lbs!), seems a daft idea!
BUF - L. McCoy HB - Pulled Groin (4 weeks) - Rex Ryan blew up news headlines when he picked up running back extraordinaire McCoy, so it's tough he'll be without him for a bit. Luckily they still have Fred Jackson who is a MORE than capable backup. Expect the offense to run as normal for the weeks McCoy is gone.

San Fran, a team who have yet to lose a game in the Preseason, (despite a lot of changes on this squad), will be inviting the Chargers down to their home tonight, for some hard-hitting action!
While this may not be the dominant 49ers defense of a few years, we expect them to put up a good fight, along with this verstaile offense.
The Chargers' offensive drive started slow, unable to convert a single down.
The 49ers had no such issue. They pushed the ball on the ground, but were unable to get to the redzone. Instead, they decided to go for the 58yd FG! Obviously, it was short, (ambitious call!), so the Bolts got the good field position.
Unfortunately, with San Fran playing shut-down run defense, the Bolts only managed to get to the redzone and come away with three. Still, it was the first points of the game with a minute left in the Qtr.
If the 49ers were shutting down the run game, then the Chargers were opening the door for them! The running back corps torched the Bolts on the ground, leading to a 2yd TD run by Kendall Hunter. The 3rd running back on the depth chart!
For a moment, it looked like it would be another quick 3 and out for the Chargers. Luckily, the veteran ability of TE Antonio Gates came through on 3rd, with a great one-handed grab over the middle.
The very next play, QB Kellen Clemens finds WR Dontrelle Inman wide open in the endzone, 26yds for paydirt.
Veteran presence: This clutch grab led to the Chargers' first TD of the game.
Down by 3, the 49ers ground assault continued. Newly acquired RB Reggie Bush and Kendall Hunter pushed the offense up the field with ease. Even when the ball was put into the hands of backup QB Dominique Davis, despite a sack by OLB Tourek Williams, the offense still moved without much resistance.
Eventually, the Chargers were able to stall them at the goal-line, leading to a gimme FG, tying the game up 10-10.
Rushing Woes: As the stats show, the Chargers have struggled to both run the football and stop the run!
San Fran received the kick-off and the Chargers defensive woes continued. Davis was able to pick apart the team through the air, even tuck it and run for yardage. It wasn't until a sack from DE Corey Liuget brought up 4th down did the madness end!
However, K Phil Dawson made the 45yd FG, putting the Niners up early in the half.
The Chargers' offense found life early though, with a nice screen pass to RB Branden Oliver, which went for 50yds! This put the Bolts in great position to milk the run game, until Clemens found WR Jacoby Jones for the TD. Bolts back on top 17-13!
With only a minute left in the 3rd, the Niners continued their aerial assault. Another sack, and continued pressure by Tourek Williams, seemed to do little to hamper their progress. Now into the 4th Qtr RB Kendall Hunter runs it in from a yard out, putting the Niners back on top.
The see-saw game continues, with neither team able to pull away.
So with five minutes left in the game, the Chargers need to score and hold off this stampeding offense. A sack on first down, then a knock down on second, is not the way to do it. But 3rd & 18, Clemens uncorks a beautiful lofted pass to a streaking Dontrelle Inman, which is caught for a 42yd gain!
With the great gain, the Chargers' offense came to life, and stormed down the field, carving up the Niners defense through the air! On about the 5th play of the drive, Clemens dumps it off short to Gates, who makes a beautiful cut and punches it in for the 11yd TD! Once again, the tide turns and now San Diego pulls in front.
But disaster for the 49ers this time, as Davis takes off and is caught from behind by FS Eric Weddle. The ball comes out and is scooped up by SS Jimmy Wilson on the opponents 39!
With a chance to put this game away, Clemens tries too hard to deliver the ball to his receivers, and the drive ends at the 26 with a 3 and out. But Novak is able to put away the 36yd FG, giving the Bolts a seven point lead.
With just under two minutes remaining in the game, the pressure was on for Davis and this offense. Going no-huddle the entire way, Davis scrambled around looking for receivers, eating two sacks in the process. But even with 30 secs left on 4th down, he still finds a way to convert!
It isn't until a a 23 yd pass to WR Anquan Boldin, (who goes up to pull it down in TRIPLE coverage!), that this 49ers team may actually score! With no time-outs remaining, 8secs on the clock, on the 4yd line, last play of the game! Davis takes the snap, looks, breaks a sack, and with a defender hanging off him, slings it into the endzone, and its caught by WR Torrey Smith! So the 49ers, with their dying breath, tie the game up, and therefore, ladies and gentlemen, we are going to Overtime!
Poise: Even surrounded by traffic, the young man out of East Carolina is able to stand strong and deliver the ball accurately to keep his team in the game!
Overtime in the Preseason, who ever wanted this? Still, the fans who showed up were getting their money's worth!
The Niners win the toss and elect to receive.
San Fran started as before, some nice running from RB Reggie Bush go them down to the Chargers' 42yd line. But soon after, disaster! As Hunter takes the hand-off and finds a huge gap in the middle of the Chargers' defense and sprints 42yds, untouched, for the game-winning TD!
Final Score: SD - 27 SF - 34

Another close loss for the Bolts this Preseason, but in fairness, the defense couldn't stop a nose bleed this week, which primarily led to their loss.
On the other hand, the offense looked pretty good out there, well, at least in the passing game! Kellen Clemens had another nice week, passing for 3 TDs and a handful of incompletions. But what let this offense down was the running game, or lack there-of! The Chargers put up an embarrassing number of rushing yards, and got no help from the O-Line either! After last week one would have hoped this issue would have been solved, but alas, we will see what next week brings.
On the other side of the ball, the defense got trampled, both through the air and on the ground, they may as well not have even been there. The Niners looked dominant, putting up 466yds of offense. Their receivers ran unabated all day, and the defensive line might as well have lay down for them.
We spoke to Coach McCoy over the phone after the game, and asked him his thoughts and what went wrong:
"Putrid. That is the only word that springs to mind right now. Understand we have a lot of young and inexperienced players on that second team, but to see your players perform like that makes this job so tough...
I'll be sitting down with the defensive staff and having a long discussion. We need to make sure our young guys are better drilled for these kinds of situations in the future."
Offensive Gameball: QB Kellen Clemens; It's two weeks in a row now, but it's hard to argue that Clemens wasn't the driving force of the team this week. With 3TDs, no picks, and some accurate passing he continues to impress. Even with no running game, (and little help from the O-line), he showed some real talent out their, and deserves his second gameball in the same number of weeks.
Defensive Gameball: OLB Tourek Williams; Before coming into the season, Williams was one of those guys who had yet to impress and was on the cusp of being let go. Now, after a great preseason so far, he earns his first gameball. While he didn't have the best stats of the team, his two sacks and nice tackles in the run game, (not to mention his constant pressure), was probably the only bright spark on the defense.

Bolts Insider
Another week of preseason is in the books, and a lot of teams have begun their house-cleaning chores. This week we saw a bunch of free agents find new homes, and many now looking for them.
So without further ado, let's get started with this week's news!
Signed:
SD - T. Reese WR - 520K: Reese is on his way back to San Diego. After being drafted in 7th Round last year, he was cut after struggling at WR. However, after some reconsideration, it would seem the kid's freakish athleticism is too much to pass on. He has break-neck speed and agility and could be dynamite at KR, but may struggle at the Receiver position.
CLE - W. Welker WR - 2.83M: This probably isn't exactly how Welker wanted his career to go, after so many years with the Patriots he is slowly becoming a journeyman. That said, he is arguably still the best slot receiver in the NFL, and he will help Cleveland immensely in the passing game. Johnny Football should enjoy his new target!
The elite slot receiver has probably found his last home in his career, at least somewhere he can help out in a big way!
HOU - S. Rice WR - 2.13M: Losing Andre Johnson, the Texans have filled the void left by signing veteran Sidney Rice. IF, he can fight through the myriad of injuries he's had in his career, he is talented enough to really help this young offense. He can definitely contribute, but again, it's all down to WHEN he gets injured.
TEN - B. Pollard SS - 4.54M: Pollard just landed himself a huge deal for this year alone! The hard-hitting, tempo-setting Safety is on his way back to Tennessee, and a good thing too! The Titan's secondary is somewhat lacking, but adding a force like Pollard should help them out immensely. He may even lead the team in tackles this year.
BUF - H. Dahl OG - 2.06M: The Bills are building a destructive team this year! With the frightening front four on defense, all the talent on offense, now they have one of the nastiest O-Lines in the NFL too! Harvey Dahl joins Richie Incognito at the OG position, both known for their tough and nasty play. They should be two maulers on the line this year, if they can stay out of trouble.
NO - J. Greer CB - 2.87M: An odd move here by the Saints. After letting Greer go, after an awful ACL injury, they have decided to pay big to take him back. It's unclear if he'll be at 100%, but he know the team and knows the defense, so even if he's not on his game he may be able to contribute. But, is he worth $2.87 million? We shall see.
OAK - A. Bradshaw RB - 2.2M: The division rival have added a little juice to their backfield. With a young bruiser in Latavius Murray, Bradshaw will add a bit of wiggle and allow a nice 1-2 punch. Bradshaw has had some fumble issues in the past, along with some injuries. He probably won't start, allowing Murray to get his reps, but is a great backup at the position.
MIN - V. Leach FB - 950K: With Minnesota getting Adrian Peterson back, they've gone with the best FB on the market to block for him. Leach is a bulldozer in the run game, like a lineman in the backfield, he should pave the way for Peterson to have a great year!
Released:
CIN - D. Peko DT: Peko is at that age now where he will only replace injuries or be used as depth. That is not to say he still isn't a dominant run-stopper, but he will be hard pressed to find a place to call home this year.
Possible Landing Spots: DAL\ PHI\ ATL\ SF\ DET\ DEN
PHI - B. Jones MLB: Jones' time in Philadelphia is over before it even began! As a 7th Round pick, Jones has flourished in the NFL. His production has outshined anything that was expected of him, and his work ethic and commitment really impressed his coaches. He would be a nice fit to any locker room, especially those in a 3-4 scheme.
Possible Landing Spots: GB\ OAK\ NO
SF - T. Holliday WR: The kick-return specialist will have to find somewhere else to contribute this year, as the Broncos let him go in an unusual move. There are plenty of teams who would love a threat in the return game, so his year of football may not be over quite yet.
Possible Landing Spots: ATL\ OAK\ BAL\ WAS
SF - J. Smith DE: Someone may be able to grab one of the most dominant DE's in football. Reaching the twilight of his career, (and a costly contract coming up), the 49ers have cut ties with one of their best defensive players. He is suited to a 3-4 but could probably slot in as a 4-3 DT. He's versatile and he is an exceptional player, could be a place for him yet, otherwise retirement may be on the horizon.
Possible Landing Spots: ATL\ GB\ OAK\ TEN\ TB\ ARI
If he can't find a home before the year is out, Smith may consider retirement, but we find it hard to believe he will be passed up completely!
NYG - A. Snyder OG: Snyder is an extremely versatile lineman who hasn't seemed to be able to settle long-term. In San Fran, he played all over the line, (besides Center), displaying his versatility and willingness to learn new assignments and help out his team. This kind of mindset would be beneficial to any team.
Possible Landing Spots: SD\ SF\ NYJ\ DET\
NYG - M. Patterson DT: Formerly regarded as one of the best rookie defensive linemen in his class, Patterson has had a tumultuous career. After being diagnosed with Cerebral arteriovenous malformation in 2011, (abnormal vein and artery connection in the brain which can lead to seizures and internal hemorrhaging), he was cut from the Eagles. Now it seems his time in New York is also up, and will have a hard time finding a team to take a chance on him with his medical concerns, which is a shame as he is still a talented defensive lineman!
Possible Landing Spots: N/A
Trades:
PIT - Trade V. Williams MLB for M. Devito DE - KC - Pittsburgh may have made a bargain trade here. Spotting a weakness on the front three, the Steelers get Mike Devito, a 3-4 veteran who will make that defensive front fearsome. In return they lose three year man Vince Williams, a hard-hitting, athletic Linebacker, but with Ryan Shazier now in the fold, it doesn't seem a great loss.
Injuries:
NYG - O. Beckham Jr. WR - Foot Fracture (5 weeks) - Luckily, the Wide-receiver phenom will only miss two weeks of the regular season. Whether his foot will hold up the rest of the season is another question.
NYJ - M. Wilkerson DE - Broken Collarbone (5 weeks) - Luckily, it is only two weeks, so he will have plenty of time to keep on impressing. But so far, it looks like the Jets may have the most fearsome defensive line in football upon Wilkerson's return.
CAR - C. Newton QB - Upper Arm Fracture (4 weeks) - Cam got lucky this week, most of Carolina probably held it's breath waiting for the results. Luckily for the Panthers it will only be one week in which Derek Anderson has to carry the load.
Newton and the Panthers dodged a bullet this week, obviously without him their hopes of a playoff run decrease dramatically. Luckily he will be back on the field soon.

The Chargers' second game of the Preseason would take place down in the CLink, where the current Superbowl champions reside.
Known for their physical, bruising style on defense, (and on the ground), the Bolts knew they would have to strap it up tight tonight.
San Diego wins the toss, but defers to Seattle, not wanting any of their starters to get injured!
The 'Hawks came out of the gate doing exactly what we expected them to do, be physical. The drive looked strong, with RB Marshawn Lynch and big-time trade TE Jimmy Graham, all getting involved early. However, some nice pressure on 3rd & 9 brought up the 3 & Out.
Undeterred by their physical style, the Chargers looked to be stubborn in the run game, with mixed success. QB Phillip Rivers looked to exploit mismatches to his veteran TE Antonio Gates in the passing game, rather than risk challenging the likes to CB Richard Sherman and FS Earl Thomas.
However, the 1st Qtr would soon end, and it would QB Kellen Clemens turn in the firing line. On his very first snap, heavy pressure comes from the left so he rolls right, and finds a wide open WR Dontrelle Inman for a 31yd TD!
Now the 'Hawks second teamers would hit the field to see what they could do. Two runs by RB Robert Turbin met with stiff defense. 3rd down and QB Devin Gardner finds a wide open Turbin, but a huge hit from CB Patrick Robinson dislodges the football! It's scooped up by rookie LB Denzel Perryman, and the Chargers will take control again at the 'Hawks 38yd line!
David and Goliath: Despite having 34 pounds on him, Turbin succumbs to Robinson's devastating hit!
With another chance, Clemens wasted no time in moving the ball. Once again, on his first snap he rolls right and slings it down field to WR Jacoby Jones between coverage. It's caught for a 36yd gain! But at the goal line, three attempts by RB Branden Oliver are turned away, and the Chargers have to settle for a FG.
Chargers up 10 - 0.
So the 'Hawks defense steps up and helps dodge a bullet. Speaking of dodging bullets... On his first play of the drive, QB ? Gardner drops back into his Turbin as he tries to block for him. The messed up assignment allows rookie OLB Kyle Emanuel to off the edge unabated to the QB. His hit does not bring Gardner down (!) and in desperation he flings it deep to a Receiver, CB Robinson is in perfect position to make a play and he drops it! Even a diving SS Jimmy Wilson can't corral the tipped ball!
So Gardner breathes a huge sigh of relief for the luckiest play of his career! His luck would run out however, as on 3rd down, FS Eric Weddle finds his way unblocked to the QB and plants him, leading to a turnover.
The Chargers would also find their own drive tough going. They continued to run the ball with little to no success, until finally they too had to punt the football.
So with only 46secs left in the half, the 'Hawks looked to just run the clock out and finish the half. But a facemask penalty by LB Perryman gave them one more second on their own 36yd line. Gardner throws it up for grabs, it is contested but no-one can come down with it, ending the half.
At the half-way point, the Bolts had outperformed the 'Hawks in every way. But, the score was still close and Seattle a had plenty of time to mount a comeback!
After deferring, the Bolts would now get the ball to start the half.
San Diego looked good running the ball all of a sudden, 6/8 plays were running plays. But it wasn't until the eighth play that Oliver takes the ball up the right-hand side, and dives in for the 28yd TD!
The points gave San Diego a comfortable 17 point lead.
Oliver Takes Flight: With the defense closing in, the second year man takes to the air to secure the score!
Clearly on their heels, the 'Hawks offense looked shaky. Gardner was able to complete some nice passes under serious duress, but ultimately luck was not on his side today. With LB Emanuel on his heels again, Gardner looked to scramble right but is caught from behind by ? causing a fumble! OLB Cordarro Law picks it up and starts taking back to the house! He is finally caught after taking it 41yds back the other way.
Already close to the redzone, it looked like the Chargers would no-doubt score. Unfortunately, too much of a drop-back and waiting too long meant the Clemens was sacked twice consecutively, pushing them out of FG range.
Luckily, a beautiful punt by P Mike Scifres pinned the 'Hawks at their own 3. The long drive would take them into the 4th Qtr and down to their own 44. Faced with 4th down to continue, Gardner comes through, throwing on the run to Turbin, who just gets the 1st down before being blown up by MLB Manti Te'o.
With new momentum, Gardner would carry the team down to the Chargers' 2yd line. A hand-off to FB/TE Luke Wilson would put the 'Hawks first points on the board.
San Diego would continue to milk the clock, with good running from Oliver and some short to intermediate passing. However, some errant throws would give the ball back to Gardner with 1:48 left in the game.
Starting from their own 10, Gardner would find a streaking WR Ricardo Lockette, who blew his coverage. With no-one within 10 yards of him, Lockette is finally pulled down at San Diego's 10yd line! The 'Hawks would go no-huddle, and Gardner finds Turbin for the easy TD.
For the game to continue, the 'Hawks would have to get the ball back on the onside kick. Luckily for them, there's a miscommunication on the Chargers' sideline and the Special Teams line up for a regular kickoff! K Steven Hauschka puts it across the turf and... Eric Weddle is able to come up with the football!
So with that, the Chargers can safely run out the clock, and take home their first victory of the Preseason.
Final Score: SD - 17 SEA - 14

So a convincing win by the Chargers this week against the inaugural favourites, and we saw a lot of things to be excited about!
San Diego's offense struggled in the early going against this vaunted defense, but as soon as the backups came on it was a different story.
QB Kellen Clemens showed us today, what we expect from a veteran backup. He looked comfortable and poised against a strong team, and threw the ball accurately and didn't make many mistakes. If Rivers goes down, there may be some hope yet.
The Chargers also managed to assemble some semblance of a run game this week. RB Branden Oliver picked up close to a buck rushing, and had plenty of carries. It shows us that, even if they are struggling, San Diego is stubborn enough to stick to a ground game to relieve pressure on their QBs.
But let's not forget the defense either! It took the 'Hawks a whole four quarters to put any points on the board! Some nice coverage, sound tackling and capitalising on fumbles to create turnovers, saw this defense give up only 14 points to a stacked roster.
In conclusion this game wasn't as close as the score indicated. San Diego were in control for the majority of the game, and the second string team continues to impress when given the opportunity.
Offensive Gameball: QB - Kellen Clemens; Clemens had a solid performance, a far cry from last week! He was very accurate throughout, made good decisions in the passing game, and helped put to rest some concerns of his abilities.
Re-emerging Veteran: Clemens performance might solidify his spot, as rumours swirl around the signing of a new backup QB.
Defensive Gameball: CB - Patrick Robinson; Whilst no-one particularly stood out today, the defense as a whole played very well. But a couple of stand-out plays from the long time Saint, squeezed him ahead of his peers, making him the second CB this Preseason to earn our 'coveted' Gameball.

With the first week of preseason in the books, we bring you our weekly news section.
Here we will recap all the big name signings, releases, trades and injuries, with analysis. We will also give a brief preview of the Chargers upcoming game and the game of the week!
So without further ado, let's get to the biggest news items of preseason's week one!
Signed:
GB - R. Rice RB - 680K: The Packers may have got the bargain of the year. Despite his severe off the field issues, there's no denying that Rice was one of the best RBs in the NFL for a stint. With the stigma surrounding him, Green Bay were able to underpay him and accept the media circus that comes with him.
At a recent press conference, Mike McCarthy was reported to state:
"Ray has served his suspension to it's fullest. He has been extremely cooperative with the league and his willingness to undergo certain rehabilitation programs. He has a wealth of talent and is now looking to focus solely on football. We look forward to having him in our locker room."
Time will tell if this will pay off. But sharing a backfield with Eddie Lacey, the Pack now have a great RB duo, with minimal $ signs to show for it!
With the sea of controversy surrounding him, it is unclear what Rice's future holds. But at least for this year, he may have found himself work, and a way to repair his image.
GB - C. Finnegan CB - 680K: One of the biggest trash talkers in the NFL is coming to Lambeau. With nine productive years under his belt, Finnegan will be able to contribute as the slot corner, where his instincts will help his lack of speed to anticipate the quicker receivers.
SD - R. Harewood OG - 730K: With their struggles at RG, the Chargers looked to solidify the line with Harewood. Not an experienced guy by any means, his size strength allow him to bully people in the run. Expect him to be a stop-gap player this year.
SD - S. Richardson CB - 760K: In an effort to continually upgrade their secondary they took a chance on the former CFL corner. Though young and inexperienced, Richardson does add depth and more youth to the DB corps. His rangey ability allows him to play well in zone and can press in five WR situations. Could be a developmental prospect.
DAL - C. Snee OG - 1.92M: As if being one of the best offensive lines in football wasn't enough, the Cowboys only strengthened that perception by signing the former NY Giants stand out. Snee will likely float around the line where necessary to fill any gaps created by injury or fatigue. But this is a large contract for a backup player, though you can never have to many O-linemen.
IND - M. Flynn QB - 1.65M: Though he has had his struggles, Flynn must feel like the unluckiest QB in the NFL. After throwing for six TDs in a game with Greenbay, he has been ousted from a starting role in Seattle, Oakland and Buffalo. Now he joins another team with no hope of taking a starting role. But being a backup QB is not a bad deal, and, (should he need to play), he'll find himself surrounded by talent.
BAL - U. Nwaneri OG - 2.06M: The Ravens have, arguably one of the best offensive lines in football. The only 'weakness' there is now filled by standout former-Jaguar Uche Nwaneri. A high price to pay, but the Ravens are ensuring that if they have any issues this year, it won't be on the O-line. But at 31, it's unlikely Uche will be more than a stop-gap player.
SF - J. Long OT - 680K: A bargain price for an exceptional player! Yes, we all know he has dealt with injury history, but with this kind of talent at such a low price mark who would turn it down? That said, the 49ers wouldn't have been the first team we would have thought to make this move. With outstanding OT Joe Staley playing left, perhaps they are looking to push him into OG or RT to replace Anthony Davis. Either way, a low-risk, high-reward signing.
WAS- A. Carriker DE - 1.25M: They just couldn't live without him, the former-Redskins DE is now the current Redskins DE. With the knee issues, Washington decided to let Carriker go. But after a standout Veteran Combine performance, they decided they couldn't pass up on filling the need there. Carriker knows the system, knows the players and knows the city, and should be a welcome sight back in the locker room.
KC - D. Watkins OG - 680K: Considered by many to have flamed-out, the Chiefs decided to take a shot at the former Eagle OG, and looking at their O-line it's no surprise! Watkins will likely rotate at backup, filling gaps where he is needed, and hopefully he can cobble together some love for the game if he wants to be successful.
CIN - J. Carpenter OG - 680K: The former-Seahawks guard will now be playing as depth in Cincy. Things looked very good for Carpenter as his career progressed, but he has never made quite the splash as expected. Still, at 26 he still has time to impress and earn the big contract he is looking for.
DEN - C. Nicks OG - 1.08M: The Broncos decided it was time to add a veteran to the O-line, especially at OG. They struck home in a big way! For a time, touted as one of the best guards in the NFL, (next to his partner Jahri Evans), age has since caught up with Nicks. Luckily, his fundamentals and instincts are pretty much unmatched, and having him to shore up this line will be a huge boost for the Broncos from the get go.
ATL - K. Orton QB - 1.65M: The journeyman has now found a nice deal in the Falcons camp. Obviously he won't beat out incumbent starter Matt Ryan, he does give a lot more confidence at backup than Sean Renfree.
MIA - D. Washington MLB - 3.93M: Oh boy, if the Dolphins haven't gone and made another huge move on defense! Despite some off-field issues, Daryl Washington is one of the best interior Linebackers in the NFL. With a great front 4, and now a shored up linebacking corps, the Dolphins are looking to beat up on the AFC East. But with Bills and the Jets also looking stout on defense, they will have a tough time. As for Washington, we know what he can do, expect him to be one of the leading tacklers by the end of the year.
The Miami defense will thrive with the help of super-talented Washington.
MIA - F. Davis TE - 1.72M: Defense wasn't the only thing on Joe Philbin's mind, grabbing the former Redskin seemed high on their priority list. Davis had maybe one nice year in Washington, so this seems like a high price to pay. Nevertheless, he does have the ability to play well, so with Jordan Cameron's injury history he may have a shot. If he can pass the substance test!
BUF - C. Clemons FS - 1.24M: At quite a hefty sum, the Bills added depth to their secondary with Chris Clemons. Clemons has starting time under his belt, and will help tutor and compete with third year safety Duke Williams. Depth can never be underestimated in the NFL, but it depends how much you're willing to pay for it!
TB - P. Angerer MLB - 1.83M: The Buccaneers got a much needed boost at their linebacking depth, (again though, at what cost?), in the shape of the former Colt. He has had a plethora of injury concerns however, so this could turn out to be dead money, but if not he has the ability to be able to contribute in certain packages.
TB - D. Joseph OG - 2.06M: Joseph has come home to the team who drafted him, and immediately upgrades this offensive line. Is a big, strong guy who is used to the heat in Florida, he'll be able to maul smaller interior rushers, giving their 1st overall pick the time he needs to pass.
PHI - J. Gresham TE - 720K: The former Bengal joins a talented group of TEs in Philly. Unsurprisingly, no-one has any idea what Chip Kelly is doing, albeit loading his roster with young talented players. At a stacked position, we're not sure how much time Gresham will see on the field, or if he will be used in certain packages.
Released:
No releases this week, looks like everyone is able to keep their job for one more week!
Trades:
SF - Trade C. Lemonier OLB + 4th Rnd for D. Allen TE - IND:
A great trade that may have worked out well for both parties. Indianapolis receive a talented young pass-rusher, with a pick to boot, whilst San Fran get another TE with mountains of potential.
Dwayne Allen is was arguably the better TE on the Indy roster, but despite this, they felt the need to ship him off for more picks.
With Vernon Davis getting up in age, Allen could be his likely successor. He is a complete TE, able to block and catch, and will likely give the 49ers a terrific player for years to come.
Injuries:
MIA - D.Shelby DE - Fractured Knee Cap (22 weeks) IR - The dangers of Preseason reared it's ugly head today. The fourth year DE out of Utah will miss the rest of the season. Whilst awful for Shelby, it probably won't affect the team too much, but this isn't always the case.
For many years owners have been calling for an end to Preseason, to minimise injuries and dollar loss. For many up and coming players like Shelby, it can be career altering.
JAX - A. Hurns WR - Broken Collarbone (5 weeks) - With the youngest receiving corps in the NFL, the Jags can ill afford to lose a player, the loss of depth, (and player experience), could be devastating. Luckily, the Jags have dodged a bullet here, as most of the time Hurns will miss is Preseason.
NE - N. Solder OT - Foot Stress Fracture (11 weeks) - A huge loss for the Patriots this week, as standout Nate Solder will miss considerable time. The Pats line is very thin at this point, even at starting positions, so it will be up to veteran OT Sebastian Vollmer to keep this group together. Brady may have to watch his back for 11 weeks, but on the plus side this team is nearly guaranteed a playoff spot, and Solder will be back long before then.
Tom Brady's favourite blocker will be out for quite some time, it will be interesting to see what will happen to this offense without him.

With our first Preseason matchup of the 2014 season, the Bolts would stay at home to take on the Dallas Cowboys.
With an outstanding offensive line, and impressive run game, it would be no easy task for the Chargers' defense.
Chargers win the toss, and decide to give their starters as much time as they can.
A few hand-offs to first round pick RB Melvin Gordon resulted in minimal gain and a short pass to TE Antonio Gates would give the ball to the Cowboys.
Dallas also struggled on their first drive. After a nice pass to WR Cole Beasley, Romo was pressured consistently by OLB Melvin Ingram, forcing some poor decisions and finally a sack by DE Kendall Reyes on 3rd down.
With the ball back in hand, the Chargers came out looking promising. QB Phillip Rivers led the team up the field with a strong passing attack, (Rivers was 6/6 for 47yds on the drive), but a short pass again to Gates made it 4th and 1. K Nick Novak would put the 31yd FG through to make it 3-0 Bolts.
Into the 2nd quarter, the Cowboys looked to answer back with authority. Backup RB Joseph Randle gashed the Chargers D with ease, while former 1st round QB Brandon Weeden was able to complete intermediate passes down the field.
The seven play drive was capped off by a 1yd TD run by RB Darren McFadden.
With Rivers now rocking the baseball cap, nine year man Kellen Clemens came in at QB looking to respond.
A short gain by young RB Brandon Oliver, led to an unbelievable catch by WR Jacoby Jones for a 29yd gain. Despite a 6yd sack, Clemens still launched a deep ball to TE Ladarius Green, who made a great catch in front of his defender, putting the Bolts on the 1.
Oliver capped the drive off with 6.
Skimming the blades: Jones is able to clench this ball just before it touches the blades of grass!
The Chargers kept the pressure on Weeden, including a sack by OLB Tourek Williams, forcing the Cowboys to play short, eventually leading to a turnover.
However, the Bolts tried to make something happen with 48secs left, but handed it straight back.
So with 29secs left, the Cowboys had one more chance to put some points up in the half. Luckily, they looked out of sync, and some nice pressure, (including another sack from T. Williams), ended the drive and the half.
With the ball in hand, the Cowboys started the 2nd half strong. Despite a nice sack from DE Ricardo Mathews, it looked as though they would score. But continued good pressure, led Weeden to force a pass across the field, picked off by third year CB Steve Williams.

Some good plays though would soon turn to disaster for the Chargers. After taking a brutal sack, Clemens threw a desperation pass down the field to be picked off by former-Charger CJ Spillman.
The Cowboys capitalised on the mistake, and seven plays later TE Jason Witten wanders into the endzone.
A clearly shaken Clemens came back onto the field and struggled to find his rythym. That is, until he uncorked a long 31yarder to Danny Woodhead, putting them in striking distance. A nice improvised scramble and pass to Jones gave the Chargers a three point lead.
Things seemed to keep going the Chargers way, as Williams' 2nd pick of the day gave them yet another chance to strike. But this led to nothing, allowing Weeden and the backups to hit the field again.
Offensively they were methodical, driving down the field with play after play, capping it off with a 7 yard pass to ? Street. (Williams went down hard and struggled to stand on his own, but would be ok.)
So with just over 4 minutes to go the Chargers have one last chance to take the lead, trailing 21-17.
With the pressure on, Clemens still looked out of sink, throwing wildly inaccurate passes, but still managing to keep the offense on the go. John Phillips dropped a wide open pass on 3rd & 10, but made up for it with a beautiful catch on 4th down before the 2 minute warning, (their 2nd 4th down conversion of the drive.)
Phillips and Woodhead contributed well on the drive leading the team into the redzone. A beautiful pass between double coverage bounces off the hands of Melvin Gordon, missing out on a touchdown. So 4th and 4, 55 seconds left, 13 yards away, Clemens delivers a strike to Green running to the corner. He catches it in stride and appears to take a few steps. But there is no call from the sideline!
With no way to review and unable to challenge, the Chargers have to watch as the Cowboys kneel their way to victory.
Final Score: DAL - 21 SD - 17
After a controversial call at the end of the game, we managed to catch up with Coach McCoy and ask him his thoughts:
"We think it was a bad call, but overall the refs did an excellent job in policing the game...Obviously the score doesn't matter all that much, but the guys are very proud and their play reflected that. They would have much rather have walked out with a win tonight."
For the extent of the preseason, we will only be showing Chargers' team statistics. Regular season we will keep track of both teams in the game!

A close and exciting game throughout, but at the end of the day the score amounts to little. Most of the starters didn't get much of a showing, and their stats reflect that. First round pick Melvin Gordon had little to show in his first game, but there is plenty of time left to make an impact.
What we did get to see is plenty of the Chargers depth players, who performed well against this backup Dallas roster. Defense in particular had a good showing, racking up two turnovers and four sacks. With continued pressure, (and pretty much denying the running game), they forced Weeden into questionable throws most of the game.
Where we did see struggles was in the offense. Clemens, one of the older veteran players on the team, didn't flash that grit and flare we expected from a long-time player. That said, he drove the team well for the most part, nearly delivering the game-winning pass.
The Bolts really struggled to find anything on the ground behind this suspect backup line, so let's hope the starters do a better job in the days to come.
Offensive Gameball: WR J. Jones - For a guy who, by many, was considered to be only a returner, (and a questionable signing), Jones showed why he is still a threat in the passing game. Even at 31, he wreaked havoc from the wideout position, well on his way to double digit catches and 100 yards.
Defensive Gameball: CB Steve Williams - Easy choice here, after a slow start from his 3rd Round pick selection, Williams seems to be showing a great improvement. With a ridiculous eight tackles to boot, it shows he is also fearless when pursuing the ball carrier. He has had a history of injuries in each of his years thus far, and one particular hit left him shaken, so he will have to keep himself durable to have success.
Special mention goes to OLB Tourek Williams also, who managed to pick up four tackles and two sacks. With a loaded OLB corps, he is making his case to stick around.
Making a statement: Williams' place on the team could well be solidified after today's performance.

Bolts Insider
Just to re-iterate, I am using a 2015 draft roster but playing the 2014 season. For the purposes of this play-through, assume that every team's draft class moves back a year. I'll avoid using dates where possible to avoid confusion, cheers!

So after a solid year in 2013, the Chargers decision to hire new GM, Tom Telesco has paid off. The Bolts made their first playoff appearance since 2009, and made it to the divisional round. A big part of this success can be attributed to the new coach Mike McCoy.
Formally an OC for the Broncos, acquiring him was one of Telesco's first moves in the GM seat. Now one of the youngest head coaches in the league, he has had past success with QBs, including both Manning and Tebow. His pairing with Phillip Rivers was a match made in heaven, and the 33 year old looked rejuvenated after 6 years with Norv Turner.
New Brass In Town - McCoy, (pictured center) and Telesco, (pictured right) bring a young and fresh approach to this up-and-coming squad.
The young duo have also put together two consecutive drafts, widely regarded as 'solid'. They have drafted to fill needs as much as possible, whilst bolstering the team depth as a whole. 2014(15) was no exception:-
1st Round - Melvin Gordon RB - Between himself and Gurley, it was clear that the two RBs were positioned as 1A and 1B in the first round. With the departure of Ryan Mathews, the Chargers looked to find a legitimate running threat, they did so in abundance.
After, questionably, moving up two spots with San Fran, the Chargers ensured they snagged themselves this Jamaal Charles-like back who can, hopefully, give this team a spark in the running game at long last!
2nd Round - Denzel Perryman MLB - Probably hoping to land DT Eddie Goldman here, (who went early to Chicago), the Bolts, instead, looked to bolster the LB position, who played woefully throughout most of the year. Vaunted as a 'badass' in many scouting reports, Perryman is a thumping LB that can plug the holes in the line and attack the RB.
While not the fastest or the soundest coverage backer, he can compete for a spot with Manti Te'o from the get go.
3rd Round - Craig Mager CB - Bit of a wild card here, Mager is a small-school standout who missed only two games in his four year career. He's athletic, able to use his quick-twitch reflexes to jump on underneath patterns, and good vertical to challenge jump passes. He loves to tackle and was considered to play safety.
There are concerns about his deep speed and his coverage abilities, but he is athletic and really tough, which are qualities that can't be taught. He's as raw as you can get, but could have some potential.
5th Round - Kyle Emanuel OLB - Another tough, bruising player, this time from North Dakota. Emanuel was projected as a 3rd rounder but dropped in the Chargers laps in their continual search for an impact OLB. Emanuel showed his ability to rush the passer in the FCS, where he logged 19.5 sacks in his senior year. The blow on him, is the competition he faced in his conference, leading people to believe he just overpowered his opponents.
Still, this is hardly a knock, when a player is dominant a lot of it comes down to their talent, and hopefully it will translate in the the NFL.
6th Round - Darius Philon DT - Considered young and under-developed, the young man from Arkansas does possess great athleticism, but his size will be a real hit against him in the 3-4. He would be better served as a 4-3 interior lineman, but the Bolts may find more success moving him to the DE spot, where his lack of bulk won't hinder him so much.
Undervalued? - It's been many years since more than one running back went in the first round, but it looks like the Chargers aren't buying that RBs are less of a commodity in this league.
So with a young and fresh outlook from the management, now adding a lot of young and fresh faces, this team looks to be on the up and up. We sat down and spoke with Mr. Telesco and what his thoughts are on the team moving forward;
"We believe we have a strong team of individuals. We have a lot of talented young players joining the fold who will have big responsibilities in the coming months. Luckily, we have a corps of older veterans, star players in their own right who can take these young men under their wing. I believe our locker room to be the best team atmosphere in the NFL."
"But ultimately, like all teams in this league, we would like to get younger, ensuring we have fresh talent with new skill sets to compliment our team. Obviously there are a lot of faces here from the last administration who have contributed tremendously, but may be ending their run with this team.
We're not looking to cast a shadow, or make guys fear for their job security, but we do expect quite a large player turnover in the coming years."
It would seem Mr. Telesco is not looking to rebuild but 're-vamp' this team. Adding younger, dynamic athletes, will allow him to cut bait with some poor roster decisions made in the past, in turn, freeing up a lot of cap room in the process.
Behind The Trigger - Our new GM will have a lot of work on his hands in the years to come, but clearly has his mind set on the future for this team.
We will have a better analysis of the final roster as Pre-season concludes, but for now, we're hoping you are as excited about the future of this team as we are!

Bolts Insider
The Overview:
The San Diego Chargers. Established in 1960, the Chargers have homed legendary players; such as Junior Seau, Dan Fouts, Lance Alworth, Kellen Winslow, LaDainian Tomlinson and many more. An extremely proud and loyal fan-base backs the Bolts, and has supported them through 18 playoff appearances.
One Superbowl.
So what happened?
Why has this perennially talented football team fallen flat so often? Why only one Superbowl appearance? And of course, most importantly, why haven't they won a Superbowl yet?
All great questions, and here, I hope, I can right the ship! Join me on our Youtube channel Brothers In Gaming, as we set out on this great undertaking!
The Aim:
The aim of this Dynasty/video series, is to take you through my journey as I try to establish the Bolts as a Superbowl worthy squad. You'll follow me through every game, every signing and every draft, leading to our ultimate goal, a Superbowl win. We will look to get younger overall, and maybe even look for a stadium in the future!
The Format:
Something to note, I have downloaded the latest rosters from the 2014 draft. This means that the 2014 season we play will be a year behind. It's inconvenient, but try to imagine that the 2013 rookies, had their performances in the 2013 season. If that makes sense?
As I've said, this Dynasty will be accompanied by a video series, which will air every snap of every game, show all my transactions and help to better explain my thinking and philosophies of building the team.
